From Kaiser in Cali-forn-ia...

Haven't been to homestarrunner.com in quite a while. Random. Anyway, I haven't updated this in a long time, so I'll give a quick recap of whats been happening, and why my road trip post no longer makes any sense.

About two and a half weeks ago, I got a call from the Human Resources people (among others) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL, or "the lab" from now on in my posts), informing me that I, in fact, got the job I had applied for back in April or so. This posed a slight dilemma, given that I'd already started to make plans to return to Boston (from home in Lincoln), in order to start my job working as a summer UROPer for the MIT Rocket Team. Well, less of a dilemma, really, and more of a situation where I had to figure out the details of how to get myself out to California after tying up loose ends in Boston, seeing as how there was basically no way I wouldn't take the job. In any case, that shift in plans made for a whirlwind of travel in the last week. A week ago today, I flew back to Boston (NW through MSP), in order to spend a couple of days packing up most of my stuff there to take (or ship) out to Livermore, CA, where I'd be working for the summer. I then flew to Tulsa (AA through DFW) on Thursday, for my cousin Leslie's graduation, and then my mom, brother, and I, drove from Tulsa to Livermore, starting Saturday morning, and arriving earlier today. Picture count from the entire trip(s): 547 aviation (including 79 from MHV, home of Scaled Composites), 84 from my cousin's graduation, and maybe 2 dozen random ones from the drive to Livermore (I haven't downloaded those yet). Geez, I take a lot of pictures. So, I'm out here in California now. I start work Wednesday (new staff orientation is Wednesday morning). Interestingly enough, I just found out on Saturday that one of my friends from MIT is actually working at the lab as well, and I didn't even know it. All in all, it should be a fun summer. More to come in the next few days, as I get acquainted with the town of Livermore.
